Weddings at St Peter’s Church
Why have a wedding at church?
Marriage is a gift of God by which we may be drawn into the depths of his
love. It is also an important public commitment by which society is
enriched. For these reasons, it is good that marriage vows should be made in
the sight of God, to his praise and glory, and with prayers for his
blessing.
Can I have my wedding at St Peter’s South Weald?
There are strict legal preliminaries to any wedding. We are only allowed to
marry couples if at least one person lives in the parish, or has a very
particular connection with the parish. Examples of the latter might be
someone who was baptised at South Weald or who has parents residing in the
parish. Please see www.yourchurchwedding.org for further information..

How much does a wedding cost?
The fees vary according to what is booked. A typical service in 2010 costs
£539, which includes the choir, bell ringers and a pedestal of flowers; a
‘no frills’ service costs £296.
How far in advance need we book a wedding?
The church is generally available most days, except when there are
particular church events happening. There is little need to worry that the
church will be fully booked. Weddings can be booked for any day of the week,
although we double some fees for a Sunday. Weddings cannot be booked further
in advance than the calendar year following the present year.
How do I book a wedding?
In the first instance, please telephone the Vicar (01277 212054).
