1st March 2003 - The Appeal launches with an art auction

The Keys to the Future Appeal, had a very successful launch on Saturday, when over £8,500 was raised by the Auction of the first 5 numbered prints and the original painting generously donated by George Hogg of St Peter's Church. The original was bought by Graham Chambers, a lifetime local resident, at a price of £5,500 after stiff competition. The Auction was "hosted" in entertaining style by Roger Hornett, the husband of St. Peter's teacher, Christine Hornett. The whole event benefited from wonderful organisation, amongst whom Julia Reynolds, Gill Bitschine, Marian Long and Steve Bearpark are to be especially thanked.

The Vicar, Ian Jorysz was able to advise the audience that, as a result of pledges from the PCC and sales of prints, by the end of the evening, a total of over £36,000 had already been raised.
